Ozark Challenge Rules

1. All Ozark Challenge participants must follow a Leave-No-Trace ethic. Anyone found littering or engaging in environmentally destructive behavior will be disqualified and asked to leave. Participants must avoid off-limit area as specified by Ozark Challenge staff.

2. Ozark Challenge racers must be at least 18 year of age.

3. The time recorded by Ozark Challenge staff will be the official time. Grievances will be addressed to the best of our abilities by the Governing Board.

4. Rules may be modified or added at any time. All participants must read and understand race literature, must sign waivers, and must be present at the mandatory safety meeting(s). In the event of severe weather, unforeseen safety concerns, or Acts of God, Ozark Challenge officials may modify the race or rules as needed once the event is underway. The Ozark Challenge and its affiliates are not responsible for accidents or for damaged, lost, or stolen equipment.

5. Use of illegal substances, global positioning systems, and special night vision equipment are prohibited. Standard watches, altimeters, and cameras are acceptable. Radios and cell phones may be carried for emergency use only and must not be used for competitive advantage.

6. For safety purposes, participants must carry the specified equipment for each section of the course (see gear list). Staff may perform equipment checks at any time during the race.

7. Helmets must be worn during all mountain biking, paddling, and climbing-related sections. Racers must provide helmets for biking and paddling sections (these can be the same helmet). Climbing helmets will be provided by race staff during rope sections.

8. Participants must have a functioning headlight and tail light on each bike (all categories) and must illuminate them while on roads open to motor vehicles.

9. Participants must properly wear Coast Guard approved Type III Personal Floatation Devices at all times while on the water.

10. All original members of each team must check in together at each checkpoint. All members of each team must remain within sight and sound of each other during the event. All team members must cross the finish line simultaneously. Teams must travel under their own power during the race. Any team using motorized or unauthorized transportation will be disqualified.
